#1 Treat your shoes
It’s important to treat your new shoes with a stain and water repellent. Using a protective spray like Scotchgard will keep your canvas and leather sneakers looking new for a long time. Sprays made for specific materials like suede or even leather are easily available.
#2 Use baby wipes
Every time you get home, wipe your shoes down with alcohol-free baby wipes. This simple treatment will maintain their sheen and target fresh stains that would be tougher to remove over time. Might be a tad tedious but hey, it’s cheap and efficient.
#3 Do not bleach
While cleaning white laces with bleach might work, bleach damages the fibres in the fabric. Instead, soak them in a much milder combination of water and detergent. This method works for coloured laces too.
#4 Do spot cleaning
It might be tempting to throw your shoes into the washing machine, but that could tear and further discolour them. Use a cleaning agent and shoe-cleaning brush (or even a toothbrush) to gently scrub out blemishes or stains instead.
#5 Keep your shoes indoors
The bane of sneaker-heads everywhere, yellowed rubber soles can be caused by direct sun damage. Avoid this by keeping your shoes indoors and out of the sunlight. You can also spot-clean the rubber in hard-to-reach areas with a brush, water and mild soap.
