Must-have money-saving apps

1. CardsPal – Compare credit cards’ deals and benefits

CardsPal is an all-in-one credit card comparison app that allows you to compare the different credit card deals in the market so you can use the card that gets you the most benefits. You won’t have to search Google for the best credit card deal before getting the bill or memorise which credit card gives you the best rebates.

With CardsPal, add in the credit cards that you own and you’ll be able to view all the available deals for that card. Don’t worry, you won’t have to enter your actual credit card details. You’ll only need to know the type of card that you have.

On the app, you can browse deals across 6 categories such as dining, lifestyle, retail, and leisure.

Plus, make use of the Cashback Calculator in the app to instantly find out how much estimated cashback you’ll be getting from your spending. Especially useful if you’re making a big-ticket purchase! Since you’re spending a significant amount of money, you might want to see which of your cards gives you the best benefits so you can maximise it.

Even if you’re only paying for everyday essentials like groceries, you can use the card that gives you the best rebates or points. All these seemingly little savings can accumulate to a significant amount over time.

2. Healthy 365 – Stay healthy and earn eVouchers

Healthy 365 is a mobile app by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) Singapore which hopes to encourage users to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Y

ou can link compatible fitness tracking devices and mobile apps to sync information such as number of steps taken daily and amount of time spent on active exercises.

Earn Healthpoints in the app when you clock a certain number of steps or time spent on active exercises. These Healthpoints can be accumulated and exchanged for rewards such as Fairprice eVouchers, HPB eVouchers, TransitLink eVouchers, KLOOK app vouchers.

You can even set up an auto-redemption to make sure your Healthpoints don’t expire without you knowing.

When you purchase healthier meals, groceries or drinks, you can earn extra Healthpoints under the Eat, Drink, Shop Healthy Challenge by scanning the QR code obtained from participating partners. You can also take part in challenges organised by HPB such as the National Steps Challenge for more Healthpoints.

3. ShopBack – Accumulate real cashback on online and offline spending

ShopBack is the leading rewards and discovery platform in Asia-Pacific, allowing its users to earn cashback on both online and offline spending. This cashback is accumulated in your ShopBack account and can be withdrawn as real cash into your chosen bank account.

For online spending, tap on a deal or store on their ShopBack app and you will be redirected to the merchant’s website. Shop as you would normally, and your cashback will be automatically tracked and added to your ShopBack account in a couple of days.

You can also get cashback on your in-store spending with ShopBack GO. Simply link your preferred payment methods to your ShopBack account and spend as you would normally. Nobody would know that you’re getting real cashback on your spending.

You can also purchase deals from participating merchants. For example, snag a $50 voucher for just $10 and get cashback on the voucher purchase as well!

4. YouTrip – Save on overseas online spending

YouTrip is Singapore’s first multi-currency wallet that allows users to pay in over 150 currencies with no additional fees. You can also do in-app currency exchanges for 10 currencies so you can lock in competitive rates anytime, anywhere.

They offer competitive Wholesale Exchange Rates which are updated by the minute. These rates are also the foreign exchange rates that are used by banks, large corporations, and public and private institutions for large volume currency transactions.

This means you’re getting the best possible currency exchange rate on your overseas purchases online.

Their newer YouTrip Perks rewards programme also gives users access to exclusive promotions, offers and discounts at popular brands.

Using YouTrip, you can save significant amounts when you purchase on global sites such as Amazon US, iHerb, Taobao, and Gmarket. Instead of getting your air fryer locally, why not check out some air fryer options from Taobao?

We personally think YouTrip is best for purchasing relatively larger ticket items such as appliances and furniture on overseas online websites.

5. LumiHealth – Complete challenges for eVouchers

LumiHealth is a mobile app designed by the Health Promotion Board (HPB) Singapore in conjunction with Apple. Similar to the Healthy365 app, LumiHealth aims to encourage users to adopt healthy habits such as eating well and remaining active through personalised reminders, goals, and incentives.

Sync your Apple Watch and the LumiHealth app to participate in the programme and earn HPB eVouchers which you can spend at supermarkets, cinemas, and other retail stores. According to LumiHealth, you can earn up to $380 worth of HPB eVouchers over 2 years just by completing challenges within the app.

You can view all the participating merchants via the app and the eVouchers’ redemption process is also rather simple and quick.

6. Chope – Purchase special deals and vouchers for dining

Chope is a restaurant reservation booking platform where you can instantly reserve at over 4,000 restaurants. Besides making reservations, you can also purchase deals under ChopeDeals where you can get up to 50% discounts and 1-for-1 specials.

Have a special occasion? Check out the deals and restaurants available on Chope so you save even during special occasions.

7. Fave – Enjoy discounted offers and instant cashback

While Chope specialises in dining deals, Fave offers a wider variety of deals on dining, leisure, lifestyle, travel, and retail. They also have FavePay and Fave eCards.

FavePay is Fave’s very own mobile payment method that allows you to earn instant Partner cashback which you can use during your next visit to the same Partner.

If you spend at a particular merchant often, you can purchase Fave eCards for more savings. It is a digital card with bonus value that you can use at the merchant. For instance, pay $80 for an eCard with $100 stored value, meaning you get $20 free!

Bonus: Family memberships – Save on family activities

While family activities might not be everyday essential expenses, it is a nice treat once in a while to head out and spend quality time. Besides the money-saving apps mentioned above, opt for family memberships at attractions such as Singapore Zoo, Science Centre Singapore, and Gardens by the Bay.

For animal lovers, get the Friends of Wildlife membership for free entry to Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, River Safari, and Jurong Bird Park. you’ll also get complimentary tram rides and discounts on dining, retail, and Wildlife tours.

Science Centre Singapore is another great family-friendly attraction especially if you prefer edutainment for your kids. They have a family membership for their exhibitions and events and they also have a separate membership for KidsSTOP, a Children’s Science Centre which focuses on science for kids.
